My Office
Every morning in the South Bay, I paddle out with the rising sun and feel grateful that this is my “office.” Teaching surf lessons here never feels like work—it feels like sharing a piece of my soul with others. Watching someone stand up on a wave for the first time is electric. The smile, the shout of surprise, the pure joy—it takes me back to when I first fell in love with surfing as a kid in Ventura. It’s those moments that make me excited to get back in the water day after day.
Being a surf instructor isn’t just about teaching technique—it’s about opening the door to the South Bay lifestyle. Between waves, we talk about ocean safety, reading the tides, or even where to grab the best breakfast burrito after a session. I get to show people that surfing is more than a sport—it’s a rhythm of life. Here in Redondo, Hermosa, and Manhattan Beach, the surf culture runs deep, and being able to welcome newcomers into that world feels like passing on a tradition.
What makes it all even better is the variety of people I meet. Families, kids, first-timers, even seasoned surfers looking to refine their style—every lesson is a new story. Sometimes we’re laughing about wipeouts, other times we’re celebrating small breakthroughs, but every session leaves both my students and me with a little more joy. Surfing has given me so much, and teaching in the South Bay is my way of giving it back, one wave at a time.
